The Story

When there is nowhere left to turn, small mercies make big waves

A broken-home led to a search for meaning. After overhearing a sermon in an unlikely place, a desperate curiosity became a revelation. Through small acts of care and genuine belonging, grace received has become grace extended. Now, she is a fixture in the work. This is the story about how she found — and changed an unexpected family.

What We Discovered

What belonging asks of us?

When others give of themselves, it invites reciprocity in relationship. This woman, who was seeking acceptance, now seeks to invite others in and serve the community that loved her through her own gifts.

Craft

Observation

Portraying truth through small gestures. Giving space for the characters to be themselves.

Pacing

Intentional, tight, but relaxed. No prolonged beats, but opportunity to breathe.

Finish

Color and sound were kept natural, removing distraction so the audience could remain with the story.

Outcome

The film is the beginning.

To engage with others through story is to create a conduit of culture. This film is the hopeful beginning of a growing number of stories told within Birmingham's Evangel Presbytery of people experiencing life change and renewed purpose through grace.
